Joann D. Young

Joann D. Young brings Verse Consulting more than a decade of media relations expertise having worked in the broadcast, sports and community services industries all across Southern California.

When she’s not working on projects for VerseCG, you’ll likely find her knee-deep in other public relations endeavors, as she’s also a PR professional in the sports industry.   Joann creates, implements and manages creative programs and events.  She writes and edits press releases, media advisories and just about any written copy.  And she works hand-in-hand with TV, print, radio and online local, regional and international media outlets to secure coverage for a variety of events.

Before making her way into sports, Joann took on marketing, producing and media relations at the Disney-owned ABC Radio Networks’ TalkRadio 790 KABC, legendary classic rock station 95.5 KLOS and the Gracie Allen Award winning, syndicated talk radio program Satellite Sisters.

Then there was her time as a public radio producer for the Tavis Smiley Show, whom TIME Magazine honored Smiley as one of “The World’s 100 Most Influential People.” Joann’s notable interview bookings include President Bill Clinton, Senator Edward Kennedy and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, to name a few.

Taking a slight detour from broadcast and communications, but remaining close to her community affairs roots, Joann built local Habitat for Humanity homes during her tenure at the PACE/SIPA YouthBuild program in Los Angeles, Calif.

As an undergraduate at the University of California, Irvine, Joann was a humble intern in the Community Action Department at urban radio station 100.3 the Beat. Soon after, she was brought on board full-time to produce the award-winning public affairs program Street Science with Dominique DiPrima. It was her experience in the Community Action Department of organizing high-profile events like the Community Action Awards, Summer Arts Series, Youth Leadership Awards and Town Hall Meetings that laid the foundation to all the major event planning she does today.

A graduate of UC Irvine, Joann earned a B.A. in Criminology, Law and Society and a B.A. in Asian American Studies. Joann was also a fellow with the Public Policy and International Affairs Fellowship Program, from the University of Maryland, College Park.
